Description:

Date: September 15, 1989
Location: Taiwan Strait, Near the Median Line

Briefing:

Tensions in the Taiwan Strait have escalated as the People’s Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) increases aggressive patrols near the median line. Intelligence suggests the PLAN is under the intention to assert dominance in the region, leading to more frequent incursions and reckless maneuvers. The Republic of China Navy (ROCN) has been tasked to maintain control of the situation and avoid direct escalation unless directly provoked.
Command has marked three focus areas where the People’s Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) and People’s Liberation Army Air Force (PLAAF) have increased their military operations and added more units to patrol with increased alertness.

Mission Objectives:

Patrol the median line along designated routes unless ordered otherwise.
Once detected and confirmed PLAN vessels change course to intercept.
If PLAN vessels do engage in aggressive actions, defend the fleet and strike back.

Available ROCN Forces:
1 × Chi Yang-class frigate
1 x Yang-class frigate
2 x Chen Kung-class guided missile frigates
2 x Kee Lung-class guided missile destroyers
4 × Hai Ou-class missile boats

Available ROCAF Forces:
2 x E-2 Hawkeye AEWAC 4 × P-3 Orion stationed in Songshan AFB

Rules of Engagement (ROE):

Do not fire unless fired upon.
Maintain EMCON, maximise use of land and airborne radars
If hostile action is taken against ROCN forces, neutralize the threat.
Commercial shipping and airlines are present in the area, confirm targets before engaging.
