The World of 1962: The Man In The High Castle
The Second World War ended not with liberation, but with conquest. The Axis powers emerged triumphant, dividing the globe into 2 spheres of influence shaped by totalitarian ideologies. The United States, once a beacon of freedom, lies partitioned and humiliated. The Soviet Union lies shattered and occupied. In the east, the Greater Nazi Reich stretches from the Atlantic to the Rockies, its brutal order enforced with ruthless brutality. In the west, the Japanese Empire governs the Pacific States with imperial ambition cloaked in ancient tradition.
Between them lies the Neutral Zone — a fragile buffer, lawless and chaotic, where resistance brews and secrets lie hidden. Across the globe, puppet regimes and compliant collaborators maintain the illusion of peace, but cracks are forming.
The World Order of 1962:
The Japanese Pacific Co-Prosperity Sphere → Dominating Asia and the Pacific, this empire rules with a blend of brutal colonial occupation and traditional authority. The only independent Nation within the Japanese sphere being Thailand.
The Greater Nazi Reich → A vast fascist empire controlling Europe, Africa, the middle east and half of the Americas. Unlike the Japanese Empire, the German Sphere contains independent Allies like Italy, Spain, Argentina and many more.
The Neutral Zone → A lawless frontier between Reich and Empire, home to outcasts, rebels, and hidden hope.
The British Resistance → Scattered resistance cells in the home isles, clinging to old ideals in secret.
The Soviet Remnants → Crushed, scattered, but not entirely extinguished. A ghost of revolution waiting to rise.
