The Finest Hour
"Let us therefore brace ourselves to our duties, and so bear ourselves that, if the British Empire and its Commonwealth last for a thousand years, men will still say, ‘This was their finest hour.’"
– Winston Churchill’s famous speech.
It has been 17 years since the events of Iron Reich.
Tensions have never been higher across the world than they are now. Hitler’s untimely death in 1965 and Heinrich Himmler’s ascension has caused a massive political split internally, and has caused Himmler to make massive political reforms in a desperate attempt to save the faltering Reich.
Most of Africa, being carved by France and Britain during decolonization, remains mostly a neutral zone. Whilst in South America, tensions are rising rapidly and dangerously between the United Kingdom and Argentina, over the long-disputed Falkland Islands, and an invasion could be imminent by Argentine forces as the UK – backed by the United States and numerous OFN nations – prepares for a possible conflict.
Himmler was forced to dissolve Hitler’s Reichskommissariats and the entire Axis alliance and establish protectorates under his sphere of influence in the east.
France, Belgium, the Netherlands and Denmark – after leaving Germany’s clutches and switching sides – joined the OFN during the Political Split, resulting in a mass mobilization of the SS and the Wehrmacht by Himmler in a last-ditch effort to save Hitler’s nation, but it is now clear that the German Reich is doomed with no escape.
Now on its knees, the German Reich is now alone and deprived of allies. Benito Mussolini’s death from old age in 1964 saw Italy’s transition into democracy and its shy-away from the Fascist cause. in the span of just 1 year, Hitler’s dreams of a Greater German Reich were destroyed.
The new Russian Republic, that had rose from the ashes of the former Soviet Union, sought to establish its own bloc and change the geopolitical balance. But yet, tensions remain just how they were nearly 20 years ago, unwavering and unchanging.
After the war, the USA, the battered but not yet beaten United Kingdom and numerous other former Allied nations established the Organization of Free Nations in 1948, a liberal bloc composing of the mighty superpowers of the Second World War, who still stand even in this dystopic world.
And now, the world sits still in a tense political balance, where one spark could mark the end of human civilization. Now with only one hope, Himmler must salvage the German Reich and get back on the path that Adolf Hitler had started all those decades ago…
Although the candle may soon be burnt out, hope is not lost. This is truly the world’s finest hour…
