Caledonian ‘Single’
This mod features the 4-2-2 ‘Single’ of the Caledonian Railway. Built in 1886 at St. Rollox works, this one-off locomotive was specially designed to be fast, beutiful and innovative. Using newest sanding technology and a driving wheel 7ft high, it was a key competitor in the ‘Race to the North’.
The locotive was constructed on the base of the company’s recently introduced 4-4-0 the ’66 Class’, and shared many similarities including frames, sanding equipment and boiler.
The ‘single’ was withdrawn in 1935, being the last ‘single’ in operation.
