The Good Old Charles 0.99
This mod is a heartfelt cry for Charles in lace—the one we robbed and killed with, reveled and had fun with, built and overcame hardships (sometimes while browsing forums) since 2012.
Caribbean Legend version 1.3.5 and above (if muskets are already worn on the back—everything should work fine).
- Important! Hats do not work on all replaced models (missing locators).
- Where hats will work: Ironclad armor, Lamport’s suit, brigand with a gorget.
- Also important! Unlike those pesky hats, muskets work everywhere!
Flaunt the eye-pleasing parade cuirass from the Caribbean Legend poster and the Milanese armor from the character portrait in the menu.
All light armor in this mod remains wearable under a doublet and no longer "sets the tone for the entire room" ⓒ (just like it was in CoAS). At the same time, equipping any light armor assigns Charles a new outfit, relevant to the story’s twists at the moment of obtaining it.
Just as we remember him: dashing, in lace, and very green. Textures upscaled to 2K.
Under the impression of the wondrous new world and new sailor acquaintances (whose outfits, if from salons, were thoroughly salt-stained) and only at the very beginning of his journey, Charles learns the ropes of seamanship in a look close to Nicholas, Blaise, and every second new acquaintance.
This outfit is assembled from an unused CoAS officer (No. 24) and Charles’ appearance from the mod by the respected Sith3 (Charles will be more rugged, fitting his new surroundings).
Any social gathering in the Caribbean might end with a dagger strike (or delivering one).
The duelist’s vest, in the strictest sense, retains its concept from both CoAS and the current CL—a sneaky slashing attack will be stopped by a vest hidden from the attacker’s view.
The events of the Dutch Gambit have passed, where the protagonist has already proven himself as either a defender of the oppressed or a cunning, cynical foe. Either way, dear brother will send us to face the lowest of Caribbean society… and rise to its top.
This outfit is the work of the esteemed Sith3, and for me, it remains the embodiment of the conflicting events of the "Under the Black Flag" DLC.
A controversial case. The "Caleuche" DLC offers another chance (after the French uniform) to see the protagonist in a new light—and how colorful it is: a hat, a half-mask, vibes of the mysterious "Ostinians" revival, and, ultimately, a completely different model. A truly memorable appearance, though not very well justified in the plot, and in Caribbean Legend, it was also "shelved."
After much deliberation, I decided not to touch the new suit, absolving myself of responsibility for backward compatibility if future patches modify Lamport’s outfit. I’ll satisfy nostalgic cravings in a more extravagant way.
Fadey’s gift is rather unremarkable in all aspects but famous for its, at the very least, non-obvious stealth bonus. In my playthrough, after certain events on Tortuga, I usually couldn’t be bothered to finish the last Persian saber for the Muscovite, since all stealth issues were resolved during "Caleuche."
Now, the woven armor becomes the dignified retirement outfit of Francis Dubois and Ja Preston, and its magical stealth gains a tangible form, also soothing nostalgic cravings.
And so, after about 70 hours, Charles in "Corsairs" finally gets his commission.
I’d love to say I didn’t touch anything here—wear your hats. But no, they don’t work here anyway! A good reason to expect changes to the French military surplus in future patches.
Beautiful works of Metazot’s pen.
…Except the trench coat: recalling issues with the collar, the trench coat’s place was taken by the one made by the esteemed Sith, which fixes all the flaws and saves a decent concept from oblivion.
- The BMS team, from its early days to the present.
- Special hat tip (literally thrown in the air) to Metazot.
- Sith, whose work so organically evolves the rake-Charles into Charlie the Prince.
