New Jersey battleship (BB-62) is the second Iowa class battleship built by the US Navy during the early stages of World War II, and also the second ship named after New Jersey. As the flagship of the fleet, New Jersey never avoids battle. In addition, the entire ship is equipped with over 140 20mm oerlikon and 40mm anti-aircraft guns, combined with the assistance of a 127mm MK.12 DP secondary gun, which gives it a highly efficient air-to-air capability. This excellent feature enables New Jersey to provide excellent cover for accompanying aircraft carriers in formation, and is highly favored by aircraft carriers in combat
However, New Jersey and its sister ships, as the only ones capable of countering the threat of another behemoth from across the ocean – IJN Yamato, did not have the opportunity to compete with them. The rapid development of the naval aviation industry led the US Navy to ultimately entrust this task to a new generation of aircraft carriers led by the Essex class. Under the siege of over 400 carrier based aircraft of various types, Yamato and Musashi sank one after another. The opportunity for the most powerful battleships of the United States and Japan to engage in a naval confrontation has forever disappeared.
After the end of World War II, the New Jersey once again served as the flagship of the Seventh Fleet and participated in the Korean War, the Vietnam War, and the Lebanese Civil War.
