China Railway TYPE DF4/A&DF4B Diesel Locomotive
Dongfeng 4 diesel locomotive (DF4) is the first model of the second-generation electric drive diesel locomotive in China Railway, and it is also the first AC-DC electric drive diesel locomotive designed and developed in China. This type of locomotive has experienced a tortuous process from development to maturity. . In the mid-1960s, Dalian Locomotive and Rolling Stock Works and Dalian Thermal Locomotive Research Institute and other units began to develop 240/275 series medium-speed diesel engines, and began to develop 4,000 horsepower electric transmission diesel locomotives using AC-DC transmission devices. In 1969, Dalian Locomotive and Rolling Stock Factory trial-produced the first Dongfeng 4 diesel locomotive, but due to the impact of the Cultural Revolution, the performance and quality of the locomotive did not meet the design requirements. In 1974, with the improvement of diesel engines and progress in test and assessment, coupled with the urgent demand for high-power diesel locomotives on Chinese railways at that time, Dongfeng 4 diesel locomotives were busy being put into mass production before a comprehensive durability test was carried out, causing the locomotives to be put into production. A large number of problems appeared shortly after use, and it has been in a situation of production and improvement for many years since then. After a lot of design improvements and experimental research, the reliability and durability of diesel engines have been greatly improved, and the quality of locomotives has been significantly improved since 1980. Since then, the Dongfeng 4B diesel locomotive, an upgraded product of the Dongfeng 4 locomotive, was launched in 1982. See below for details…
Dongfeng 4B diesel locomotive (DF4B) is a diesel locomotive for mainline passengers and freight used by Chinese railways, and it is also a representative model of the second-generation electric drive diesel locomotive for Chinese railways. The development of Dongfeng 4B diesel locomotive began with the Dongfeng 4 diesel locomotive and 16V240ZJ diesel engine, which were designed in 1965 and put into mass production in 1974. However, due to many problems in the design and manufacturing process of the diesel engine itself, the early Dongfeng 4 type After the diesel locomotive was put into use, failures occurred frequently. After a lot of design improvement and experimental research, the 16V240ZJB diesel engine was developed, which greatly improved its reliability and durability. In 1982, the first Dongfeng 4B diesel locomotive, which was an upgraded product of Dongfeng 4 diesel locomotive, came out. After comprehensive performance tests and application assessments, it proved that its reliability and economy were significantly improved compared with Dongfeng 4 diesel locomotives. In 1984, Dalian Locomotive and Rolling Stock Works began mass production of Dongfeng 4B diesel locomotives. Ziyang Diesel Locomotive Works and Datong Locomotive Works also joined the production ranks in 1986. Up to now, more than 4,500 Dongfeng 4B diesel locomotives have been produced, becoming the largest production volume in the history of Chinese railways. The most widely used diesel locomotive models.
