Description:

Do the defensive structures in this game seem, well, pathetic compared to your ship designs? Well, hopefully they’ll now be a bit less so, especially since they now better adapt to a changing metagame.

All defenses will now carry Battle Pods to increase their carrying capacity, and unless more advanced special systems are available, may also come equipped with Reinforced Hull and Heavy Armor.

Star Bases and Military Outposts: They’ll focus on boating missiles, and later, torpedoes in the early-to-mid-game, and will rely upon Anti-Missile Rockets to defend themselves from enemy missiles. Later on, however, once Gauss Cannons or Plasma Cannons are available, they’ll switch to using them (though they’ll prefer Causs Cannons over Plasma Cannons due to their shield-piercing effects and lack of range dissipation), since by then, chances are that they have pretty accurate targeting computers.

Battlestations, Star Fortresses, and Advanced Outposts: These start with a focus on beam weapons, for both offense and point-defense, since by the time that you get access to them, chances are that you’ll already have some decent targeting computers. Initially, they’ll carry Battle Scanners to help improve their targeting computers’ mediocre accuracy, but later on, when computers advance to the point where Battle Scanners are all but unnecessary, they’ll switch to Hyper-X Capacitors and High Energy Focus. In addition, Battlestations and Star Forts wlll carry Lightning Fields to better protect them from enemy missile barrages, and may also be equipped with Energy Absorbers and Shield Capacitors to help prolong their survival, though Star Forts will later swap out their Lightning Fields for Wide Area Jammers to provide additional anti-missile support for any friendly ships in the vicinity, and carry Hard Shields to counter shield-piercing weapons.

Missile Bases: In addition to missiles (possibly with the MIRV mod), they now carry torpedoes (with the Semi-Guided and Overloaded mods) to better deal with capital ships that may be too well protected from missiles. Uses Anti-Missile Rockets as (fittingly) its own point defense system.

Ground Batteries: Now takes advantage of such specials as Hyper-X Capacitors, High Energy Focus, and Battle Scanners.
