Novakid Brands Expanded – Anom’s Resprite
Redesigns several of the brands from Novakid Brands Expanded to make them more abstract and unique.
I’ve used the brands from Novakid Brands Expanded for as long as I can remember. In fact, the brand featured on the character in my icon and branding, Zoey, is from this pack! There are just a number of brands from this pack that I’m not the biggest fan of. It’s not a fault on the part of the mod author, and I don’t mean to imply that – it’s just a case of personal preference. So, I took the time to resprite them myself.
The design language I chose to constrain my changes to was to keep things generally more abstract, but still include just enough detail to show some subtle influence of the original. For most symbols, this just involved adding some sections, removing some lines or fills, and cutting a couple corners off. Others were completely redesigned, still keeping the general idea of the original, but with an entirely new look.
The largest changes were made to the Letters, Numbers, and the other species faces. All of the species faces were converted into more simplistic symbols, as I felt these would work better with the new art direction of the brands. All letters and numbers have been translated into their Ancient Alphabet counterparts, which I felt was a bit more fitting for the very minimal lore that exists regarding the Novakid.
Again, none of this intended to knock down or insult the original mod. I think it’s a great mod, and I have nothing whatsoever against Chillstorm’s work. I simply wanted to try my own hand at redesigning some of these brands to better suit my personal tastes. I’m happy with what I managed to accomplish. I hope you enjoy!
