Jacob
Jacob was an insurance agent working for a large company in Porogen. He was close to getting promoted when the war struck. His sister, Amelia, called him constantly as she heard more updates about the war and how terrible it was getting. Jacob wasn’t close enough to witness what she was talking about, so he disregarded her concerns. This proved to be tragic as soon as the city went into full-scale war. Jacob’s building was bombed while he was inside of it, causing him to suffer extremely painful wounds – he almost lost his right leg under the rubble that fell on top of him, and he suffered some head injuries.
In the hospital that took him in, he recovered slowly, but was forced to watch patients come in-and-out every day with varying degrees of physical pain and mental torment. The man in the bed next to him, Roger, suffered from insomnia and PTSD, so Jacob was constantly kept awake by his screaming fits. To make matters worse, phone lines had fallen, meaning that there was no communication with Amelia. Alone, exhausted, and in severe pain, Jacob wanted to die.
The hospital was raided by rebels soon after. They killed off several patients, a few doctors, and the security guards. Jacob was lucky, or rather, unlucky – the rebels saw that he was in fairly good condition and gave him the option of either working them or them killing him. Not wanting to die at the hands of rebels, he agreed to work with them. They armed him, fed him, gave him ample medical supplies, and allowed him time to recover before they sent him out into battle.
However, this never happened. One night, Jacob gathered as many supplies as he could and fled the rebel base, running as fast as his stiff, injured leg would allow. He landed in a house otuside Porogen, where he found solitude with other refugees. His old life behind him and the longing to see his sister again, Jacob plans to put all his effort into surviving the war so that he can finally leave Porogen and be reunited with his family.
