Description

Have you ever wished you could dig up soil or sand and move it wherever you please? With Simply Relocate Soil, you can! This mod lets you dig up different types of terrain, collect them into bags, and then place them somewhere else. Perfect for creating fertile farmland exactly where you need it or shaping your colony in new ways.

How to Use
  • Mark any tile of Rich, Stony, Lichen Covered or Regular Soil, or Sand. Your colonists will dig it up and store it as a bag in your stockpile.
  • Each type of terrain is stored in its own bag (Lichen Covered Soil stored as Regular Soil Bag).
  • Once you have bags in storage, just select the corresponding terrain from the “Relocate Soil” category to place it.

Requirements

Compatibility
  • Works with the base game and any DLC.
  • This mod can be safely added to existing saves. However, on maps generated without the Consistent Map Stone, stone types uncovered after digging may not match those in the rest of the map.
  • Might not be compatible with other mods that change terrain definitions.

Known Issues
  • None so far. Please report any bugs or unexpected behavior in the comments.

Comparison with Soil Relocation Framework

If you are familiar with Soil Relocation Framework, you might notice similar functions in this mod. However, Simply Relocate Soil offers a different approach that focuses on simplicity and balance. Here are the main differences:

    Soil in Bags

By default each bag of soil occupies its own tile (stack limit: 1). You can change stack limit via mod settings. Also digging up takes significantly more effort, making it less trivial to strip large swaths of terrain quickly.

    No Overwriting Existing Soil

You cannot empty a soil bag onto a tile that already has soil. This prevents players from endlessly “disposing” of bags in one spot. By disallowing it, the mod maintains a more balanced approach.

    Limited Diggable Terrain
    • Only five types of terrain can be dug up: Normal Soil, Rich Soil, Stony Soil, Lichen-Covered Soil, and Sand.
    • “Wet” terrains (such as marshy or muddy soil) and ice cannot be dug. However, players can still use moisture pumps to dry out those tiles (turning them into diggable soil types) if they really want to relocate that land.
    Plants Are Properly Handled

Any plants on the target cell are actually cut down by colonists before the soil is removed, rather than simply vanishing.

Who is this mod for?
  • Players who want the ability to dig and relocate soil without extra features that might imbalance the game.
  • Those looking for a more straightforward, balance-focused approach, where you pay with the space that soil bags occupy and time to haul them rather than just moving soil freely.

By focusing on these mechanics, Relocate Soil keeps the game balanced while still giving you the freedom to reshape your colony’s terrain as you see fit. Enjoy!

Relocate Soil Lite

There is also an even lighter version of this mod. It does not require any additional mods and has fewer features to further minimize its impact on game balance.
