Las Vegas WSC
Las Vegas Motor Speedway – Short Road Course (1996-2005)
Track type: Historic Track
During the early years of Las Vegas Motor Speedway’s sports car hosting duties, specifically the IMSA GT Championship era, a Road Course variant of the track was used for the race. In 1997 however, the chosen configuration was that of the Short Road Course, with the track incorporating oval sections with the infield section, of which the track would converge back to the oval Turn 3 before going back to the start/finish line. Although this configuration was only driven once, with the Medium Road Course used for subsequent years, the WSC race (separate from the GTs) was run at night, with the main quirk being the fact that the infield had less lighting than the oval parts. This would make up both the namesake and design choice used for this configuration.
