The Nebula – Hover/Flyer
FREE OF SUSPENSION GLITCHES
This is a personal transport luxury flyer with 2 passenger seats, a walkable interior and a focus on primarily comfort. Compared to my newer flyers it is effectively a brick attached to a string, especially with its lack of performance. The primary piece of tech when it comes to flight control is its gyro, which will manage roll and pitch automatically and keep it level at all times. It also includes a manual mode, to override the gyro and allow for full 3D-movement if you want to do higher performance flight. Another feature are its hovering sensors to allow for automatic altitude adjustments depending on the terrain, but still allowing for full flight capabilities with the option of enabling neutral thrust (counteracts gravity). To make long distance flight on larger maps a lot easier, it also comes equipped with 4-speed cruise control, which will also work in any of the mentioned modes. Besides flyer control tech, it also has a radio and adjustable interior lighting with a mood lighting setting.
Should also point out that this flyer has full low physics compatability in manual mode, the automatic mode is a bit more compromised with the gyroscopic processions reliability dropping.
W/S – Foward/Backward Thrust
A/D – Yaw
Automatic-Mode:
1/2 – Roll (Strafing Substitute)
3 – Positive Lift
4 – Negative Lift
Manual-Mode:
1/2 – Roll
3/4 – Pitch
1+2 – Positive Lift
3+4 – Negative Lift
(Suggest that you set up a second WASD set for roll & pitch)
1+2+3 – Neutral Lift (Gravity Compensation)
1+2+3+4 – Switch Auto/Manual Mode (Auto by default)
5 – Main Power On/Off
6 – Cruise Control On/Off
6+W/S – Change Cruise Control Speed
7 – Exterior Lights
8 – Interior Lights
9 – Radio
10 – Horn
The interior buttons near the entrances control the interior lighting.
Left:
Red Light – Safety Deactivation
Yellow Light – Auto/Manual Mode (Auto by default)
Green Light – Neutral Thrust
Center:
Cyan Lights – Cruise Control Speeds
Right:
White Light (Left) – Exterior Lights
White Light (Right) – Interior Lights
Magenta Light – Mood Lighting
Left Switch In the Back:
Manual shutoff of the stabalization
(Useful for when you park it and still hear the engine and thrusters)
Right Switch In the Back (Bottom):
Manual shutoff for the automatic hovering
(Useful for when you enter garages or other places with a low ceiling)
Right Switch In The Back (Top):
Timed shutoff for the whole vehicle
(Useful for when you need to rescue this or other flyers out of the sky)
I had quite a few requirements while designing this flyer. It first off had to be free of any suspension glitches for good low physics compatablity (at least in manual mode), a cockpit with a central piloting position, thats also optimised for first person use and a much better flyer/thruster layout for heavily improved power to weight efficiency, while still maintaining comfort.
Most of these required a lot of changes to my old car-chassis flyer formula, which makes this part of a completely new generation. This also allowed for a design free of any car body restraints and balancing limitations.
To achieve better power to weight efficiency, I ditched all the sideways and downwards thrust and hooked up yaw, strafing, pitch and roll controls to the existing thrusters. Having an option to manually controll pitch and roll is also important for improved performance, since it allows to apply the thrust in the direction where its needed a lot better. All the center points of thrust are alligned with the center of mass, to allow for maxed out thrusters everywhere for better thrust power to mass efficiency.
The gyro was kept to maintain said comfort and it needed to be completely revised to work with manual controls, primarily in giving them full 360° capabilities.
With all the added controls you will quickly run out of seat connections, which not only required a new control scheme with a new button setup, but also a logic system to give each button more functions.
The bug of the injection logic spawning in incorrectly sometimes has been fixed and it has received a 3 axis 3d gyro, for heavily increased gyro reliability.
It also received an updated control scheme to be in line with community standards. Roll & pitch got inverted and they have been offset by 1 for the main power switch.
