Battlecruiser 2000
I am actually surprised no one seems to have uploaded this ship before…
Welp, here it is, the Battlecruiser 2000.
During the end of the 20th century / begin of the 21st century, the US Navy was playing with the thoughts of finally retiring the now over 50 year old Iowa battleships once and for all. Some were worried the United States would be left without the necessary capabilities to perform shore bombardment and land support. To fill this possibly fatal weakpoint, many different alternatives were drawn out and pulled through a grinder of political bureaucracy, the final solution to the battleship crisis being known to us today as the USS Zumwalt.
Another thought of that time however was the arsenal ship, and really similar to it, the Battlecruiser 2000. The vision of such a ship lied in the hope that missiles were to finally fully replace guns, and ships packed to the brim with missiles of all kind were the future of naval warfare.
Ultimately however, such a concept proved too outlandish to be realized… At least for that time.
This build is completely vanilla and does not require any mods.
Specifications:
Length: 153.6 m
Beam: 27.4 m
Height: 23.4 m
Armament:
288 SM-6 VLAA missile cells
144 RGM-158 LRASM anti ship missile cells
192 RGM-109 Tomahawk cruise missile cells
making for a combined of 624 VLS cells.
For my version of the Battlecruiser 2000, I chose to use the Preset Arleigh Burke as base hull. Funnily, I found out that the Preset Burke is actually loaded with ballast weights to bring it to the right displacement and has only 5mm armor on all places (hence you might have experienced that if you built a ship of that size yourself, it would frequently end up with + 2x the HP amount of the Preset Burke.) So I went on and removed the ballasts, giving our favorite flat boi some armor plating between 32 and 76mm in thickness, which is why it has 22k hp instead of like 13k or something.
I hope you enjoy her!
