Tench Class (Fleet Snorkel Conversion)
The Tench-class submarines were a highly capable evolution of the preceding Balao-class, with most boats entering service in the final stages of World War II. While their initial design was similar, their true potential was realized in the post-war era. As the Cold War began, many Tench-class boats underwent extensive modernization through the GUPPY (Greater Underwater Propulsion Power Program) and Fleet Snorkel programs, transforming them from fleet boats into the first generation of true underwater hunters, designed to counter the growing Soviet submarine threat.
This mod introduces a meticulously crafted, custom-built Tench-class submarine, representing a post-WWII "Fleet Snorkel" conversion specifically designed for Sea Power. Experience the dawn of the Cold War with a submarine built for a new era of naval combat, featuring:
Custom Tench-Class Submarine Model: A highly detailed representation of a Fleet Snorkel boat, featuring the distinct streamlined "sail" and a fully modeled snorkel mast for extended underwater operations on diesel power.
Authentic Cold War Torpedo Loadout:
Mk14 Torpedo: The workhorse anti-ship torpedo from World War II, carried over into early Cold War service. A reliable straight-runner, it serves alongside the more powerful Mk16.
Mk16 Mod 8 Torpedo: A powerful, high-speed, straight-running anti-surface torpedo. As a post-WWII weapon, it features a significantly larger warhead and greater reliability than its predecessors, making it a devastating threat to surface combatants.
Mk37 Torpedo: An advanced, electrically propelled, passive/active acoustic homing torpedo. The Mk37 was a dedicated anti-submarine weapon and represents the shift in submarine doctrine towards hunter-killer roles. (Existing In game Torpedo Used here)
Custom Sensor Suite:
AN/BPS-12 Radar Set: A period-accurate surface search radar common on post-war submarine conversions.
AN/SQS-4 Active Sonar: Provides the ability to actively "ping" for targets, essential for precise fire control solutions.
AN/BQR-2 Passive Sonar: The standard passive sonar suite for this conversion, used for detecting targets acoustically.
Performance Note:
This mod was created with a focus on high detail and visual fidelity. While it runs smoothly on my development system, it may be demanding on lower-end machines due to the complexity of the models and textures. Please be aware that performance may vary.
