PRL ’81: Rebels
IMPORTANT FIND – I am happy to announce that, at least according to my initial testing, if you have my PRL Menu Backgrounds Mod installed locally (meaning a .vpk file placed in hl2/custom folder) the "bad reference count" error is avoided! Which makes sense, since that mod basically prevents the background maps from loading altogether. Instructions on how to install the mod locally are in that mod’s description.
This mod replaces the default HL2 Rebels with a mix of models from my LWP Troops and Winter Citizens mods.
The purpose of this is to simulate regular citizens who took up arms and raided army warehouses, as well as regular conscripts who decided to abandon their posts and join the rebellion. Even the loathed ORMO got a chance at redemption.
NOTICE – As this mod uses elements from my Winter Citizens, it’s almost guaranteed that the "bad reference count" bug may occur. Basically, for reasons I wasn’t able to identify, the Plaza and Street War Background Maps (the ones that load after you open the game) cause texture errors on pre-placed citizen corpses in various maps, spamming the console with "bad reference count". This is not my fault, it’s the Workshop uploader that breaks it. The only permanent fix found for that is to make a local copy (.vpk file) of the mod and place it in the hl2/custom folder.
–Quilboar and Svotnik, for making the Post-Apocalyptic Citizens, which served as a base and where the citizen’s hands come from;
–Half_Dead, for making the Metro Last Light Citizens and Casual Civilians Hack Pack, where the majority of the bodygroups come from;
–Død Viking for making the LWP Models;
–MattMakesSwords, for the GP-5 Mask.
