The Omni Mage
This mod adds a new class into the game, the Omni Mage.
What is an Omni Mage? Basically, it’s a heavily modified version of the secret Archmage class, on steroids. It adds a new leader unit, the Omni Mage.
The gimmick of this class is that it’s all about mages and ritual abilities. You cannot recruit any standard troops, at all. Soldiers with sharp blades and pointy sticks? How uncivilised. Archers with bows and arrows? How primitive! Scouts or captains? Who needs them!
You need only recruit mages! This class has a whopping Wizard recruitment chance of 50%, and multiple wizards can appear for recruitment every turn. All mercs, including scouts, heroes and assassins, (should be) disabled.
You’ll have to rely on ritual summons to be your chaff. Good thing your Omni Mages has access to them from several faction rituals! Other than that, he can recruit catapults/trebuchets for alchemist rituals, and mirrors for illusionist rituals.
Until then, It’s just you, accompanied with a Warlock Apprentice. Pick and choose your fights. An Omni Mage may be OP, but he’s just as squishy as any other mage. A stray arrow, or even AoE spells from other mages (or himself) may cause an unhappy accident (beware chain lightning)!
Additionally, if you own at least 1 temple (not libraries, temple), you have a chance to recruit apprentices from several other magic based classes! Ever wonder what it’d be like to have a Necromancer and Demonologist at the same time? Well now all you need to do is capture a temple! Chance to recruit them increases with more temples owned.
Spawns with guaranteed 2-3 magic items. Has Farsight and Acute senses as well.
Has access to several spell schools at level 2.
Has access to several rituals at tier 2 from other classes, just like the archmage. The difference being Warlock rituals have been replaced with Illusionist rituals.
Can be promoted with an expensive, custom ritual to have access to level 3 spells of all his spell schools.
He is just as squishy as any other mage. If he dies, you won’t be able get another Omni Mage.
I tried limiting the Omni Mage rituals and apprentice recruitment to only "Magic" based factions, so you won’t be doing things like Voice of El shenanigans or getting Baron recruitment. Possible recruits are Necro, Demonologist, Druid, Enchanter, Illusionist, Warlock, Witch and Alchemist.
I made this mod out on a whim, just for fun, and it’s my first time modding. It’s far from balanced, nor is it too serious an approach to a new faction. I had this idea when playing an unlocked Archmage class via mod, and just thought it’d be fun to use only mages.
I had some issues making this mod as expected. I wasn’t able to get the Warlock rituals to work properly (the tier 1 spells that upgrade warlocks to a specific path kept showing up) so I just opted to replace it with Illusion and start the game with an Warlock apprentice instead. I also couldn’t find a way for the Omni Mage to learn new rituals, or upgrade existing rituals to tier 3, when promoting. You’ll just have to settle with tier 2 rituals until you hire more apprentices I suppose.
There’s likely bugs or weird stuff ingame I don’t know about. I haven’t really tested it from compatibility for other mods as well, but it should be fine with some of the more popular ones (maybe?)
