Ice Queen Class – Compatible with MuhBalance
Hailing from the frozen north, the Ice Queen seeks to spread her dominion over the rest of Elysium by spreading snow and ice to hinder opponents.
Ice queen is an attempt at creating a “creep-spreading” faction, snowy terrain slows down most enemies while the snow queen units all get snow move. Many units have ice protect giving them extra armor in the snow. High tier units will rapidly melt outside of the cold. You can only have one ice queen at a time, only replacing her if dead, different unit tiers of units are gated behind the ice queen’s level. At level two she becomes ageless, at three she becomes immortal.
At level one you only have access to vanilla troops with snow move and some cold resistance. At level two, you get access to glacial units which have do more damage and have extra armor and healing in the cold. Plus, ice and snow elementals which are ranged and melee summons, and snow undines that are frost magic casters. Level three has a wide variety of units, including exploding frontliners, blizzard casting siege units, frost giants, and unit swallowing avalanches.
Spread cold is your primary way of reducing the temperature, the effectiveness of all cold spreading auras works better the further north you are and will wax and wane with the seasons. At level three you can summon a sphere of cold to allow your army to retain its bonuses while away from home, frost giants also have the same effect at a lower chilling value.
Your economy is balanced by distancing your gem sources from each other, meaning the Ice queen will need to control a large part of the map. To better control your territory, you can build snow sprite nests to spawn small armies of stealthy and stupid fae that wander within snowy areas while whittling away at backdooring armies.
Playing against:
Since ice queen’s economy is so spread out across the map, medium sized backdooring armies can drain their gem supply very quickly, just bring a scout to avoid ambushes from the fae. Cloud lord, ghost barbarians, and Dwarfs should be particularly apt at this. If the ice queen ever loses control of a frozen anomaly, it will be destroyed, and the cold effect will disappear. Despite having elementals and ice troops as her units, they are not mindless, poison immune or similar, so traditional utility effects like sleep, confusion, and charm will still work against her. The faction is full of aoe effects, so having fewer more quality units will be better than go wide strategies. Almost all of Ice Queen’s units suffer from some degree of fire vulnerably, so pick up any pyromancers you can find. Necromancer is a simple auto-lose matchup; I am not sure what I will do to fix this while staying in flavor.
This class is balanced for and made to work with my other mod MuhBalanceand and will need that one to function correctly This is no longer true, but it is still balanced for that mod-set. MuhBalance also requires Total Overhall (made by Commisar Jon Fuklaw) to run, so all three of those must be enabled.
I do not have any experience with sprite or art in general, so all the art assets are recolors of existing assets taken from CoE and Doms data rips.
