Description:

This is a pack of Road Trains, all modelled from existing Urban Games’ trucks, starting with a small steam powered truck in the late 1800’s, right through to a modern, 2020 Electric.

There are 6 different Road Trains available, in various forms.

The Trucks

  • Starting in 1894, we have the steam truck. Uses the UG Steam Lorry as it’s main point, but comes with the choice of 1 or 2 wooden cart trailers.
Carries 15 or 24 cargo respectively, and can carry any cargo available.
Has a custom Soundset so it sounds like a steam engine.
  • Moving up to 1950, we have a truck called the "General". It’s based upon the Studebaker, and has the choice of up to 3 stake trailers.
Carries 20 cargo per trailer, and can carry any cargo.
  • The Peterbuilt 359 variants appear in 1970, coming with 1, 2, 3 or 4 trailer variants, in all forms; Hoppers, Stakes, Boxes and Tankers.
Also comes with a single variant of the box and tanker.
    Carries 40 cargo per trailer.
  • The Cascadia Freightliner variants appear in 1995. This comes with 2 or 3 trailer variants (Of all types), and also the option of a truck with a single stake trailer.
    Carries 52 cargo per trailer.
  • A fictional truck, the Night Star, appears in 2010. This is based on the UG 359, and has been remodelled as a "Pulling Truck". In real life these are fitted with powerful engines, such as modified C15 and Cummins engines, with various turbo arrangements, resulting in upwards of 2000hp and a lot of smoke.
The in-game truck replicates this too.
Has a modified soundset so it has a bit of turbo whine when running.
  • Another fictional truck, the FT3, appears in 2020. This is based on the J6P, and it’s modelled as an Electric truck with a top speed of 70mph. Comes with 2 or 3 trailer variants, and carries 60 cargo per trailer.
Has a modified soundset, so it sounds roughly like an electric car.

Features

  • All trailers are set as a compartment, so these trucks can carry multiple types of cargo.
  • Custom UI icons.
  • Fully re-paintable.
  • Age effects as per the original vehicles.
  • Particle emitters have been edited and made stronger for most of these trucks.
  • Custom camera positions on the Night Star.
  • Custom soundsets on some trucks.
  • Industry mods, such as Expanded Production Chains, should work with these trucks.
Notes, Information, and Potential Issues

(In no particular order)

  • Note on Truck weights. I based trailer weight on their vanilla counterparts, and worked out a rough guide for cab and trailer so they’re consistent between variants. Does mean that some will weigh less than others.
  • Trucks have a low lifespan of 9 years. Intentional, to remind you to keep them out of cities.
  • Trucks can clip through each other at stations, on tight curves, and/or when changing lanes. Not much I can do about it, as it’s how the "bounding box" works for road vehicles. I’ve minimised it as best I can, but this will happen sometimes if you send these trucks into cities.
Keeping these Road Trains out of cities (As in reality) is the best way to mitigate this, as well as limiting the number of trucks waiting at a station.
  • Trucks clip the rear of the vanilla Road Depot when leaving the Depot, due to their length. I can’t do anything about this, as trucks can’t be made up of individual trailers, like a train consist is. It is (to the game) one single unit.
  • Trucks stop at traffic lights, and refuse to move. It happened very rarely for me in testing. If this does happen for you, remove the traffic lights on that junction, or move the route.
