RWR Reloaded
The year is 2008. Since the cold war turned hot thirty years ago, the world has been in a constant state of conflict. The concept of ‘nations’ or ‘states’ has long since been eroded – the three remaining armies are culturally and technologically homogenous, and are identified only by the colour of their uniform. Enormous, multi-trillion-dollar think tanks create more and more advanced ways of killing – sold at a massive profit to every side, and available only to the very best troops. The rest have to make do with decades-old second-hand weapons that they are forced to use. Swathes of urban and rural land lie abandoned, inhabited only by unending waves of soldiers – with each passing day, the war grows more all-encompassing and more amorphous. Welcome to an alternate history of the twenty-first century – told in the least accurate and most exploding way possible. It may be a dystopia, but that doesn’t stop us from having fun.
IMPORTANT: This mod is no longer being updated. As such, the more new vehicles and maps are added by the dev team, the more potential there is for errors, missing vehicles/turrets, and the appearance of underpowered vanilla content. Any maps added later than Iron Enclave are not tested and as such, may not function correctly.
Featuring new guns, new items, new calls, new AI, new enemy classes, a redone XP progression system, and many tweaks to make the gameplay fast and fresh. This mod lets you progress in one quick match from a lowly private dying on the frontlines to a devastating commando who decides where the frontlines will be. If you’re skilled enough, you may even become the radio general himself.
This mod is for quick match only, and was designed to create the same feeling of progression you get in the campaign in a quick match.
Recommended settings: XP Gain 160%, RP Gain 215%, Friendly/Enemy Accuracy 100%
I recommend you set the soldier number to around the vanilla amount, but it changes depending on the map. My personal (non-vanilla) favourite is 350 soldiers on Fridge Valley.
This is my gun – Nearly all rare weapons have been made available through the armoury, and you can respawn with most of them. Every weapon has been rebalanced as well: Earlier weapons are weaker, and later weapons are far more powerful.
Surgical strike – Four new explosive weapons have been added: The Portable Airstrike, Grenade Minigun, Limpet Chain Gun, and the APC HMG (yes, you can now run about with a handheld APC turret). There’s also a new grenade that bridges the gap between flashbangs and frags, wounding enemies in a large radius.
Play dress up – A total of 9 vest varieties, from the flimsy Ballistic Weave to the cumbersome but nigh-bulletproof Shock Vest, let you become a fearsome opponent on the battlefield. You can also don the gear of your favourite faction commandos.
Get defensive – The deployable mg, minigun, AT launcher, and mortar return with renewed vigor. With more than double the fire rate, they can hold back some of the toughest troop formations, and can be deployed by the AI as well. Cover is also deployed at a much higher rate than before, dynamically changing the battlefield.
Pimp my IFV – Thanks to advances in technology, deployable vehicles make their debut on the battlefield. You can even store a few of the lighter ones in your backpack. On top of that, the technical and DarkCat tank have been given a spit-shine and return under new names. Airdrop them in and become unstoppable.
Fireteam inbound – The biggest gameplay adjustment of all, the calls system, has been completely remade. Call in a (offscreen) helicopter to rain machinegun fire on your foes, or salt the earth with a barrage from a 400mm naval cannon. Or, you can drop off a platoon of 50 paratroopers.
Commando and conquer – New AI packages and soldier classes mean a more diverse and varied battlefield. Medics wait just behind the frontlines to sweep in and save lives, specialists deploy cover and turrets to gain the upper hand, snipers spot targets for their subordinates, shock troops charge in firing shotgun blasts, commandos saturate the area with reinforcements and artillery, and the General carries the weight of his army wherever he goes, crushing those in his path.
It’s a trap – The Minethrower AP fires stationary anti-personnel mines that can differentiate between friend and foe. However, every faction’s mine looks exactly the same. You may think they won’t get you because you can see them – but they will.
Surpass metal gear – Improved stealth weaponry and camo gear mean you can engage in stealth missions with less fear of being filled with holes, at least until you’re spotted. Now with the ability to disguise yourself as a member of a neutral NGO – just don’t stand too close, or they’ll see through the disguise.
Nomenclature+ – Soldier naming has been updated so any soldier can have any name. Female names aren’t restricted to the female models, and a soldier in the Greenbelt army can have a Russian name. Feel the might of Vladimir Hardmeat.
Combo breaker – Racking up kill combos will increase your xp and rp at a massive rate. You also get much more xp from capturing command points and destroying enemy vehicles.
Surprisingly, a strategic element – Should you sneak behind enemy lines to take out that commando who keeps calling reinforcements, or should you call in a squad of shock troops to try and brute force his frontline? Would it be better to take a powerful explosive weapon that fires slowly, or a weaker infantry weapon that can hande one-on-one fights?
Support support – Play a support role in a way no other RWR mod offers. Throw down cover and turrets to fortify your line, use high-capacity medpacks to heal downed soldiers, or use your RP to deploy extra vehicles for the AI (or you) to drive. How about using the mine launcher to make your enemies’ base a little less safe?
Combo breaker – Racking up kill combos will increase your xp and rp at a massive rate. You also get much more xp from capturing command points and destroying enemy vehicles.
Realism ends here – Rapid-fire tanks, multiple-projectile rocket launchers, a vehicle-destroying desert eagle, a minigun that shoots grenades. This isn’t your grandfather’s war simulation.
The Viper map on the Workshop works amazingly well with this mod. So does FOV mode.
You have my permission to use whatever you want from this mod in your own creations – just mention RWR Reloaded if you publish what you make.
No, I’m not going to make it for campaign. If any of you are burning for a campaign version of this, you have my permission to use my assets to create it yourself.
The Balance Rethink mod was used as a template to create this mod. Every aspect of BR has been changed, but I feel it’s important to thank the creator of that mod for helping kick-start the development of this one. Thank you very much.
