Description:

Minor Update 10/15/19:

  • Purple reflections and weird shadows fixed
  • Fog adjustments
  • Doors are now toggleable

What is gm_kansasplains?

A wide open map loosely modeled after real life locations in Kansas and Oklahoma.

Features:
  • A few houses, barns and other miscellaneous structures (all of which are fully destructible)
  • A mobile home park
  • Lots of space to screw around with
  • AI Noded

Known Bugs:
  • Every so often, reflections can appear purple (FIXED 10/15/19)
  • Some NPCs can’t open doors (this is a Source Engine limitation with func_door_rotating. However, I have somewhat worked around this. The doors can now be toggled, so NPCs can walk through the open doorways.)
  • Lighting can stick around after the houses are destroyed

If storm chasing is your thing, I’ve extensively tested this map with gDisasters tornadoes and the classic Tornado Mod, and both seem to work great. The tornadoes love to destroy the houses… so watch out! (I am not affiliated with GMSC or either of those mods, I just made this map)

BE WARNED: Since this map has A LOT of physics objects, you may experience lag. Although I have done my best to optimize the map and make it run as smoothly as possible, I CANNOT guarantee good performance (especially if you’re using an old or lower-end PC)
edit: The map actually runs OK on a crappy decade old Intel Atom-based netbook. Horray for me? However do note that gDisasters tornadoes will still likely cause lag on older computers.

Required Games:

None, thankfully!

With all that being said, hope you enjoy!
