BR Mineral wagon repaint kit
How to repaint this wagon:
- Subscribe to the item and start the game in Steam so that the kit is downloaded
- Open the kit in the train editor by right-clicking on "train editor" in main menu
- Right-click on empty space and choose "Edit metadata". Make note of the folder where the kit is loaded from
- Press Esc and "Save as new"
- Edit metadata again and make note of the folder where the new copy has been saved to
- Manually copy the .jpg image files from the original kit folder to the folder of the new copy
- Use your preferred image editing program to repaint each of the textures. Do not overwrite the original file because it’s still needed as ambient occlusion (AO) map. Save the repainted texture as a new image instead
- In the train editor right-click on the highlighted models to open node properties. Expand the node in the tree view and change the albedo texture in each material from the AO texture to the newly painted albedo image
- Remember to save changes regularly
If you don’t wish to repaint some parts of the vehicle, you can remove individual node materials to restore the original textures. In order to refresh the view after making changes to the textures, right-click to open the properties for any part of the vehicle, and close them again.
How to know which areas of the textures match which parts of the vehicle? The names of the texture files give a hint about their content, but other than that, you’ll just have to guess. Try looking for other repaints of the same item in the workshop, as textures that have already been repainted may be easier to work with.
The different areas in the textures have a few pixels of margin to prevent blending with black when mipmaps are generated. For DDS files you’ll need to create mipmaps manually. If your DDS image is upside down, try setting the Y-tiling to -1 in the corresponding node material.
