N Landen Default: 117 vice 127
This is the default 1967 North Landen timetable, but with all class 127s replaced by class 117s.
For those like me, for whom dealing with the manual transmission gearbox is an essential part of the DMU experience, the class 127 – with its automatic transmission – can be a little dull.
On North Landen’s default timetable some of the most interesting schedules are allocated a class 127. In this timetable, a class 117 takes its place.
The class 117 is an appropriate, suburban DMU for these schedules, having spent much of its working life operating similar services out of London Paddington.
On North Landen, the slower acceleration brought about by the need to make gear changes means it’s a little more challenging to keep time with the class 117 than with the class 127, but it is still perfectly possible once you get a feel for the braking.
