Description:

(NOTE: THIS MODEL IS A LEGACY MODEL. IT WONT RECIEVE ANY UPDATES SINCE THERE ARE MORE SUPERIOR VERSIONS OUT THERE)

UPDATE 10/7/2021: Fixed proportions so they dont look odd. Now their longer and lower down compared to the other locos.

After a month of a hiatus on making models, im back with another model and the first part of the last models (for now) for the “Rolling Thunder Range”, that being the 3,800hp heavy-duty medium-speed workhorses, being the EMD SD60.

The EMD SD60’s were came into existence in 1984 with the creation of the EMD Demonstrators 1-4 which were trialed on many roads for demonstration runs. They were more successful and reliable then the more crankshaft-failing SD50’s from a few years. These units proved to be quite powerful because of how fuel-efficent they were (according to the CNW’s railroad manual). Seeing as the SD60’s were reliable, some of the major roads like Conrail, CSX, Chicago North Western, Norfolk Southern, SOO Line and Union Pacific took on good numbers of SD60’s for use on there network. Another cab variant was built in 1989 to comply for the FRA’s “Safety Cab” requirements. One new cab variant was built in 1991 which was designated as “Phase 2” amongst the builders, which was more better then the original “Triclops” cab in terms of performance and crew-comfort.

Today, many SD60’s have been stored, de-rated, or retired from regular use. BNSF, UP, CN and CP still use SD60’s on normal trains, but have mostly been relegated to yard switchers, locals or just being on and off in service, but many SD60’s have found second-leases of life on shortline railroads, where they will most likely last for many more years to come.

In this pack, we have the Standard Cab variant alongside the “Phase 2” cab, each with liveries replicating the units seen during there prime days. Enjoy!!

And before you ask, yes the SD60M Triclops and SD60E will be coming soon, just give it a while.
