JR East E127 Series / JR東日本E127系
The E127 Series (E127系) is a 2-car EMU operated by JR East in Nagano and Kanagawa Prefectures.
Designed for local and regional operations in Nagano and Niigata Prefectures, the E127 series features improved boarding efficiency with 3 doors per side, which became necessary as commuter demand rose around Greater Niigata. A total of 50 cars were produced from 1995 to 1998. In 2015, most of the Niigata-based units were transferred to third-sector operator Echigo TOKImeki Railway as the ETR127, the remaining Niigata units were transferred to the Nambu Branch Line in the Greater Tokyo Area in 2022. The units assigned to Nagano Prefecture remain in operation there.
