JR West 225 Series / JR西日本225系
The 225 Series (225系) is an EMU operated by JR West in the Kansai Region.
Introduced in 2010 as a new mass production vehicle for JR West’s Keihanshin network, the 225 series is commonly seen type in the region. Designed to be capable of joint operations with the 223 series, the type also features a crush-able zone to reduce frontal impact in case of collisions. A variety of subtypes was produced for a range of service patterns in Kansai, including the Special Rapid on the Biwako, Kyōto, and Kōbe lines, as well as the Kansai Airport Rapid. 480 cars have been manufactured to date and production remains on-going. The 255 series operate as 4, 6, 8, or 12 car formations.
