JR West 321 Series / JR西日本321系
The 321 Series (321系) is an EMU operated by JR West in the Kansai Region.
Designed to replace aging JNR-era rolling stock on the Keihanshin portion of the Tōkaidō and San’yō Main Lines (JR Biwako Line, JR Kyōto Line, and JR Kōbe Line), the 321 series is a common type in the region. Manufactured from 2005-2007, the type incorporates numerous technological advancements compared to the previous generation 207 series, aiming for greater passenger comfort and reduced operating costs. Cars with the same designation within a formation were made to be completely identical, and those with different designations was unified to a high extent. 273 total cars were produced in 39 7-car sets, all operational in scheduled services.
