JR East EV-E301 Series / JR東日本EV-E301系
The EV-E301 Series (EV-E301系) is a BEMU operated by JR East on the Karasuyama Line.
Introduced in 2014 as the JR Group’s first BEMU in revenue service, the EV-E301 series is equipped with lithium-ion batteries for operations on the unelectrified Karasuyama Line. Services from Utsunomiya are charged on the electrified Tōhoku Main Line (Utsunomiya Line) via pantograph until Hōshakuji Station, then operates on battery power until the terminus at Karasuyama Station, which is also equipped with charging equipment. A total of 8 cars in 4 2-car sets were produced, fully replacing the KiHa 40 series on the Karasuyama Line.
