Cut Dead Trees First
This mod adjusts lumberjack behavior to prioritize the cutting of dead trees. The mod’s behavior can be configured to suit your preferred level of beaver-animosity towards dead trees and specific tree species.
"Legend has it, a great beaver once tried to have a talk with a particularly stubborn oak about leafing the other trees alone. It just stood there, pining away, utterly branch-minded…plotting. That’s why we don’t negotiate anymore; we just cut to the chase!" – Kazco
Prioritization Modes
The mod offers three distinct modes to control how lumberjacks handle dead trees.
- Off: The mod is disabled. Lumberjacks will use the game’s default logic for selecting trees to cut.
- Designated Only: Lumberjacks will prioritize cutting dead trees within their range, but only if those trees have been marked for cutting by the player. Dead trees that are not designated will be ignored.
- Expanded: Lumberjacks will automatically seek out and prioritize cutting all dead trees within their range, even if they have not been designated for cutting. Once all dead trees in range are cleared, they will proceed to cut any living trees that have been designated.
Tree Species Priority
In addition to prioritizing dead trees, I have also added a dropdown to prioritize specific species of living trees. Dead trees will always be cut first as the highest priority, followed by any preferred living tree species that you have selected for annihilation cutting. The available options are:
- None: No tree species is safe from beavers (No specific tree species is prioritized).
- Oak Trees: Prioritizes cutting Oak trees after all dead trees have been cleared (Birch trees approve of this setting).
- Birch Trees: Prioritizes cutting Birch trees after all dead trees have been cleared (Oak trees approve of this setting).
- Oak & Birch Trees: Prioritizes cutting both Oak and Birch trees after all dead trees have been cleared. Oak and Birch trees are sought out with a vengeance, drawing the ire and wrath of your beavers away from other trees (for now).
Both ‘prioritization mode’ and ‘tree species preference’ can be selected from the in-game mod settings menu.
