M909A1 Linebacker
The M909 Linebacker is a self-propelled anti-aircraft system developed in 1981 and entering service in 1986, built on the robust HEMTT truck chassis. It features a 25mm Bushmaster M268 autocannon paired with eight MIM-128 SACLOS-guided missiles, delivering a versatile layered defense against aircraft and helicopters. The missile system typically offers a range of up to 7.5 miles, depending on the variant employed. Its primary radar is the AN/TPS-93, an X-band pulse-Doppler radar capable of detecting targets at distances up to 15 miles and locking onto them around 7.5 miles, enabling effective target acquisition and engagement even in complex operational environments.
The M909 Linebacker has seen action in multiple conflicts and operations. Notably, it was deployed during the Gulf War and later participated in Operation Desert Worm, a war against the A.C.F. (Armed Communist Forces), a multinational militant organization that emerged post-Soviet chaos and seized control of Iraq and Iran in 1997. Its combination of mobility, firepower, and advanced radar systems made it a crucial asset in countering aerial threats throughout these engagements.
