Battlefield 3 – Modern Chechens
In 2026 a magnitude 8.1 earthquake would hit in the epicenter of Grozny, affecting 180 miles of square area. The Russian response was slow, as all their resources and efforts were still directed in the War in Ukraine. Redirecting resources to a new location in chaos was not going to help long term for the crony Russian Government. While the North Caucasus States were thrown into chaos opportunity would arise for extremist groups, Islamic militants from the Islamic extremist group Ajnad al-Kavkaz started terror operations inside Russia, which eventually culminated in the attack on Khasavyurt, Kavkaz terrorists disguised as Chechen and Dagestani first responders killed over 234 Rosgvardiya.
After this Russian President Vladimir Putin blamed the people of Chechnya and Dagestan for the attack, and soon after blamed them for funneling weapons to Ajnad al-Kavkaz after finding evidence that it was done by Ajnad al-Kavkaz while also accusing them of supporting their operations and group as a whole. However, despite the claims, no Chechen, terrorist or otherwise, took responsibility for the attacks. This lack of information would lead to the first shots and shells being fired in what would become the Third Chechen War.
During the initial campaign, which has since been bogged down in guerilla warfare, Russian military and pro-Russian Chechen paramilitary forces faced Chechen separatists and Ajnad al-Kavkaz forces in open combat and in the Chechen city of Grozny and the Dagestani city of Kizlyar.
