Launch your own maritime trade venture via a new Great Project, jointly investing in the expedition with other rulers. Should your venture return, you will earn a share of gold based on what you contributed to the initial investment pool, proportional to the venture’s profits—or losses!
The Great Project is available to those who have the Joint Ventures cultural innovation (Han culture in all eras). For those without this innovation, it can be learned via the game’s Silk Road mechanic.
This mod is loosely based on the heben and douniu merchant ventures of the Tang and Song dynasties, respectively. These endeavors were maritime trade ventures managed by local merchants but funded by a joint pool of investors, who each reaped a share of the profits proportional to what they invested. In other words, these ventures were the earliest form of a joint stock company in the world.
