The event also contains a unique sword, which means only 1 can exist at the time. No need to start new game, but if that unique sword already exists on the map from any kind of source (an overhaul mod, or another mod), then this mod will not work. Therefore I say it’s most optimal for new campaings, but you shouldn’t have problems with existing saves.
