I want a BATTLE 🙁

(only for generic types + Han Su)

Sometimes, sentinels stuck in administrations want to go out to battles.

For them, this mod changes sentinels’ skill to be fun & useful.

Here is a short description about major changes.

(alternative) Tenacity of Steel
– This skill is now also applied to nearby soldiers.
– Enable condition is changed. Because in Vanilla, heroes’ intermittent charging motions initialize the stack of the skill.
– A morale buff is added

(alternative) Adamant Resolve
– The melee defense buff (evasion buff) is replaced by a resistance buff.
– Cooldown & effect range is modified.
– Cause fear & disciplined are added.
– Wind-up motion is added.
– Activation voice-over is changed (tempered reflection)

Irongrip

– A new skill, replacing ‘Tempered deflection’.
– Usage: interrupt enemy heroes & cavalry.

Concept

I want to enhance utility and fun of using sentinels in battles by a lore-friendly way.

I think the reasons of marginalized usage of sentinels is mainly because their exclusive retinue type (swordman) is relatively useless, and more importantly abilities of sentinels are useful and attractive and fun.

Basically their abilities is just a minor version of commanders’ skill (adamant resolve, tempered deflection). And tenacity of steel is also suck because unless your sentinel is dismounted or being duel, intermittent charging is deactivating the skill, therefore all of your stacks are initialized.

CA described about sentinels in their official web page:

Sentinels are strongly defensive characters and excel at locking down enemy generals and holding the line.

I see they are defensive with higher expertise stats but locking down.. what? just by following a general’s butt?

Holding the line? your line will be easily collapsed by cavalry’s charges and vangaurds attacks.

Personally a concept that I have about sentinels is by considering locking down enemy generals & holding the line ‘A hero fights in between soldiers and encourages them (with a buff), at the same time interrupting cavalry & generals by debuffing their charge & speed stats.

A. (alternative) Tenacity of Steel

Tenacity of steel‘ is now also applied to nearby soldiers, above picture demonstrates visual effects come out when a sentinel reaches phase 5. You can check your buff is spreading by this effect.

Personally, I like it because these effect looks like the shout of hero and corresponding responses of soldiers. 🙂

And the change on enable conditions allows that no more stack loss happen by intermittent charging of a hero. Also by forcing attack you can move your sentinel without loss of stack. In that situation new soldiers within the effective range of the skill will get a buff (Note: newly included soldiers starts from phase 1 even if the sentinel is phase 5.).

B. (alternative) Adamant Resolve

In Vanilla, the melee defense buff (evasion buff) is quite OP because no matter how enemy soldiers damage is huge, once an evasion is successful, their will be no damage at all. This buff therefore reduces the gap between low tier retinues and high tier retinues. So I replaced this buff with the resistance buff.

Disciplined in ‘Adamant resolve‘ is added considering representative figures of sentinels are renowned generals and experts of siege-defensing. So I re-design this skill as it is effective to defensing a bottle-neck spot.

Adamant resolve‘ now can be used like this way:

When the moral of your soldiers is waving. A sentinel can go to back up them. Then the disciplined buff makes them return fast and at the same time, the morale buff of the tenacity of steel allow them recover their morale.

Cause fear in Adamant resolve is added to enhance synergy between sentinels and swordman. I personally prefer their should be a good synergy (not only static stat buff) as a dynamical way. In this game generally swordman is superior with respect to speed-related stats than spearman, but others are inferior.

In this circumstance, when you using sentinels, what can be a good synergy with swordman (not with spearman which belongs to other heroes) ?

This can be an answer:

Bravery: +8 Expertise, Enables: Charge Negate (own retinue), Enables: Immune to Fear & Terror (own retinue)

So, swordman can be immune to fear & terror. In that situation If they have fear or terror aura. Swordman can have a definite advantage over spearman because champion heroes does not have such skill.

C. Irongrip


using Irongrip to an enemy hero. You can see how he becomes slower.

Irongrip‘ is an ability to interrupt heroes & cavalry to defend your foot-soldiers.

COMPATIBILITY

This mod is compatible with any mod which does not change skills of sentinels.
