Description:

This is a Pack of Amtrak F40PH and NPCU Painted in Phase III Paint Scheme, which was introduced in the Late 1970s (1979).

it Includes the Non Ditch Lights F40PH Models Like Early F40PH, Ditch Lights F40PH Locomotives that were Rebuilt from their original non Ditch Lights of Amtrak’s F40PH Roster.

NPCU (Non Powered Control Unit) or railfans nickname for NPCU called "Cabbage" was introduced in the mid 1990s when the Amtrak’s most F40PH locomotives that were converted and rebuilt into NPCU (Non Powered Control Unit).

Except for some Amtrak F40PH Locomotives that were out of service by 2002 or 2003.

They were later Sold to other railroad companies, Some were Saved from scrap and set aside for preservation, or Remaining Amtrak’s F40PH were mostly scrapped.

Current Status

As of right now, there are 3 Surviving Amtrak F40PH Locomotives.

They are Amtrak F40PHR #231 (Operation Lifesaver), Amtrak F40PHR #281 and Amtrak F40PH #307.

NPCU (Non Powered Control Unit) that were rebuilt from F40PH units are still in service till this day across Amtrak’s System, They are mostly used for Midwest, California and Cascades in the West Coast and Downeaster in New England (East Coast).
