The death of Constantine the Great in AD 337 did not bring peace to the Roman world — it unleashed a struggle between brothers for the inheritance of an empire reshaped by revolution, reform, and faith. For the first time since the Pax Romana, Rome had known unity under a single ruler. Now that unity fractures along dynastic lines.
This mod begins in the tense aftermath of Constantine’s death, as his three surviving sons divide the Roman world between them. Constantine II rules the western provinces from Gaul and Britain, Constans governs the central empire from Italy and the Balkans, and Constantius II commands the wealthy and dangerous eastern realms, facing Persia, religious conflict, and court intrigue. Though bound by blood, each emperor claims legitimacy as Constantine’s true heir — and none trust the others.
Politically, the empire is unstable. The army remains loyal to the Constantinian dynasty, but rival courts, purges, and religious divisions threaten civil war. The Christian Church, empowered by Constantine, is now divided by doctrine, while pagan traditions still endure across the provinces. Beyond the frontiers, old enemies watch closely: Persians, Goths, and Franks prepare to exploit Roman weakness.
