Total War Three Kingdoms: Multiplayer Remastered
Let us introduce ourselves first. We are two fans of the classic Total War multiplayer experience. We played thousands of games over the years.
We enjoy gameplay where units matter and where you can make an original army. Sadly, the multiplayer experience of Total War: Three Kingdoms is a bit of a let down. While it tries shake things up, we found the current design to be too restrictive and inconvenient: generals are too powerfull, formations are locked behind tiers, generals give insane abilities and buffs to their retinues.
That’s where the idea sprung of just removing all of that and the result felt way better. We played games between ourselves and with our friends, it was great. Then we thought: why not release it for other Total War fans to enjoy?
So now, we are releasing the first version of Multiplayer Remastered.
The scope of this mod is to bring the core classical gameplay experience of multiplayer in the Total War series. To achieve this, we have reworked several things:
- Removed the tier system where units are locked behind different general tiers
- Removed all generals but three: Sima Yi – Sima Ying – He Ji
- Each general has their respective unit roster (base/Yellow Turban/ Eight Princes)
- All unit formations are unlocked
- Generals do not give any stat/attribute bonusses to their respective retinues
Additionally to creating a competitive environment, we’d also like to make some balance and QOL changes along the way. To provide a better and more balanced experience. All these changes are made and optimized for the large unit size configuration.
QOL and balance changes:
- Reworked morale for more statisfying end-game experiences
- Fatigue regeneration is increased across the board. Troops are less tired and recover faster.
- Removed loose and wedge formation
- Reworked missiles – shorter range, changed base/ap ratio on projectiles and reworked missile block chance on shields
Known issues to crash your game:
- Auto-generating armies
- Loading in armies that contain generals that are not supported by the mod
If your game crashes as soon as you enter a custom game or multiplayer match than this has most likely to do with generals being selected that the mod does not support!
- Disable the mod
- Launch the game
- Go in a custom battle/multiplayer battle
- Remove all the generals so that your army (and that of the enemy) is empty
- Close the game
- Enable the mod
- Launch the game
We plan on supporting this mod for a long time. So we’d like to present a roadmap of the changes that you can expect soon:
- Rework of cavalry – bring shock cavalry more in line, make melee cavalry and horse archers more useful
