Stat Instructors and Trainers
This mod adds a new outpost-sized town fitted with a defensive skill training "bar" and offensive skill training "shack". On the second floor of the “bar”, players can find a skeleton repair bed, as well as two camp bed rolls to recover from any self-imposed damage. Look around for scattered equipment to properly outfit your character with the desired stats in mind.
The two new buildings contain six instructors and one master instructor each, all trained to the absolute peak (vanilla 1.2 xp caps, see FrankieWuzHere’s reddit post). The masters take their position on camp bed rolls, and their subordinates take their appropriate seats near them. Engaging in combat with the defensive master will prompt the associated instructors to begin assaulting the character with their feather fists, simulating the full force of a martial arts master, without any risk. Engaging in combat with the offensive master will allow strikes to hit the surrounding instructors who have achieved absolute inner peace and will not engage the student in training.
All the training weapons resemble those of the rusted junk models in terms of stats. However, in appearance, they seem well made. Supposedly this was by design, according to their blacksmith. The crossbow and associated bolts are specially manufactured to simulate marksmanship without expending any live ammunition. There are also training weights; with 10 total, each coming in at 21 kilograms, the perfect incremental weight for training strength every 10 levels.
- Collect and equip any gear necessary for training.
- Decide whether to prioritize offensive or defensive stats (offensive training is exclusively offense but fast as there are no interruptions, whereas defensive training is roughly 1:2 offense to defense skill leveling). If strength training, knock out a regular instructor or pick up the opposite master before continuing.
- Engage in combat with the preferred master.
- When desired skill level is achieved or other extenuating factors occur, simply disengage from combat by giving a move command >10 meters from the targeted master.
This mod began as a thought experiment and turned into an edge case test for me; I wanted to see how far I could push the vanilla AI and force it to do tasks and avoid others that would be atypical behavior logic. The limit I reached had to do with tasking an NPC to stay asleep forever without player input. I achieved the goal by those exact parameters; when a player interacts with the sleeping NPC in any way other than removing a prosthetic limb, the NPC will get up and stand in the same position forever.
I wanted to keep this as vanilla “friendly” as possible while still achieving something that other players might want. It is a forced exploit; this is by no means the intended way to play the game or the fastest way to level each skill via the base game’s exploits. However, this is a risk free and easy way of leveling characters as no damage can befall them unless self-imposed (martial arts) and no patrolling hostile factions can enter these structures and halt training.
Please let me know if there are any issues.
