Description:
What Is This Mod Even?

An update to the old (now *very* old) ‘Dynast and heros’ CoE 3 mod. I always loved playing with this mod and the wild, over the top Dynasty Warriors flavor it injected into games. Now after something like 7ish years of off and on tinkering, I finally have finished a version I’m not embarrassed to put online. Hope y’all like it!

Changelog:

12/17: Boosted base hero recruit chance for all classes (b/c I put in all this damn work, I should probably make it so y’all have a higher chance of seeing it 😅). Also some bug squashing.

12/21: Fixed archer weapon bugs

Features:

Or, What that Mod Do?
-Adds 20+ new Heros based on Dynasty Warriors characters!
-Level up the new Heros as they gain experience
-Increases base class hero recruit chances by 2-3x

How it works:

Just recruit heros like you normally would. If the Hero unit has a chinese name, maybe see what rituals he has? Unexpected Heros also draw from a limited subset of the normal roster
Once you’ve unlocked a Hero’s destiny, they have 4 levels they can upgrade to.

To level up, the heros can either undergo exponentially more costly intensive training, OR once they’ve gained enough experience, you get a discounted level up option for much cheaper. All of the heros have some level of leadership and fast healing (not much point in heros if they’re eyeless, blind, diseased, quadruple amputees right?) and wear magic items *very* well.

Level 1:

They’re a bit better than baseline Heros, but not dramatically so. They probably have a weaker version of their ‘theme’ abilities.

Level 2:

‘Thug’ level. Starting to get more powerful, at this level they are stronger in melee combat than pretty much any human, can destroy small groups of independents solo, or be a clutch player in a larger army.

Level 3:

Now its getting interesting, much more powerful versions of their theme attacks come online, at this point they can take down just about any normal indie force single handedly.

Level 4:

‘I am become Death, the shatterer of worlds’. Super Combatant level combat prowess. This is the pinnacle of their power, at this level the Heros can take on almost any army solo, they become a walking nuke, you just have to point them at what you want dead.

General Strategy Tips:
  • I updated every class to have at least a 2% chance of recruiting a hero so you should see them very occasionally.
  • I recommend keeping ~70 gold and ~10 iron in the bank as often as you can, that way if you DO get a hero offer you can snap them up.
  • Magic items are very good for Heros, Dynastic Hero’s even moreso.
  • The max base chance for recruiting a hero is 4% for the Barbarian so they’re still fairly rare, However! The Guildmaster’s Adventurers Guild also boosts hero recruit chance by ~1-2% per guild so if you want to pursue a hero-centric strategy, Mr. Moneybags is your guy.
  • Another advantage the GM has is he has the cash to keep an entire squad or more of hero’s leveled up, so Hero Spam is definitely a viable late game strategy for him.

A Note on Balans:

I did my best to keep everything at least internally ‘balanced’ (as well as making numerous edits and editorial decisions in the conversion from CoE3 to CoE5) but, well, its Dynasty Warriors. The entire franchise is about lone Heroic Individuals singlehandedly fighting entire armies, ‘balance’ is entirely relative here.

That said, I am still tweaking balance and while I don’t mind there being a few ‘just plain better’ Heros (the Necromancers of the bunch, if you will) please let me know if y’all find anything stupidly head-and-shoulders-better busted.

Future Updates:

I have Plans for a few future updates I’m already working on (universally recruit-able Kung Fu master type character which boosts Hero recruit chances when you hire him) which I’ll release as soon as I get the numbers and Balans dialed in. That said, what is here is mostly feature compete, the original had a Dynast class but, to be honest, I never played it much and don’t care to port it over. I might do something like that in the future if the mood strikes me.

Credits:

Credit for the original mod, the base mechanics and all of the sprites goes to BrianKB from this positively ancient forum thread: https://coe3.proboards.com/thread/131/class-mod-dynast

Credit for updating this fickle rat bastard of a mod goes to me, Gracchus Aurelius/Firescion.

If you’re curious how I got this truly absurd nonsense to work, feel free to check out the file, its well commented (probably *overly* commented if I’m honest).

Many thanks to the fantastic posters here in the Modding discussion boards and on the CoE 5 discord! Couldn’t have done it without y’all.

Thanks for downloading, hope y’all enjoy!
