Description:
Syrena Laminat

Syrena Laminat is a 1968 prototype passenger car made of plastic (laminate) utilizing many components from the Syrena 104 body. The designers of this vehicle had high hopes, as production of the 104 was planned to end, and the Syrena Laminat was intended to be its potential successor. The vehicle was tested for three years, and despite several flaws, the model showed promise, as unlike the Syrena 104, it looked quite modern. The idea of producing this car was completely abandoned, as production of the Syrena 104 continued until 1972, succeeded by the slightly modified Syrena 105, manufactured at the FSM plant in Bielsko-Biała from 1972. In the mid-1970s, the company wanted to scrap the molds for laminated bodies, but they were sold to a group of modelers. The modelers who owned the molds began producing their own custom-made bodies from laminate. In this way, more than a dozen cars, differing in various details, were created in the 1970s and 1980s. These vehicles were used by private owners and rarely seen on the road until the early 2000s, after which many ended up in scrapyards. Over the last 15 years, due to the rarity of this vehicle, many Syrena Laminat’s have been purchased by collectors who have, and continue to, undergo extensive restorations.
