Moskvitch 3-5-6 / Москвич 3-5-6
Moskvitch 3-5-6 was one of many prototypes derived from the so-called AZLK 3-5-(x) experimental series, which were attempts to create vehicles aspiring to the higher class. The new Moskvitch was based on the floorpan of the 2140 model, but it received new suspension components. The engine came from the 2140, but its power was increased to 103 hp; the engine displacement was 1,800 cm³ and it was equipped with two Zenith carburettors. The car is equipped with an automatic gearbox from the American company Borg-Warner. By contemporary Soviet standards, the Moskvitch 3-5-6 was a luxury car thanks to its modern appearance with a barrel-shaped body line (inspired by the Fiat 132), elegant interior, and the use of plastic components replacing the no-longer-fashionable chrome. The car was ultimately not put into mass production, although it came close, with the decision to abandon it taken mainly for financial reasons. At present, the only known surviving example of this vehicle is located in the Moscow Transport Museum.
