skulls.dm – LA Assur
"Assur is a parched land inhabited by Enkidus, large, hairy wild men with horns and unkempt hair. Assur was once a wetland village, which swore fealty to distant Eridu, the First City. Its inhabitants were hunter Enkidus, skilled at head-taking and bone reading, but totally without civilization. Over time, the terrible heat emanated from Abysia overtook the marshes, evaporating them into a dry and dusty land. The Enkidus, once protected by their swampy home, were forced learn the ways of law, war and agriculture in order to survive. Led by warrior-kings called Shars, they declared independence from their cousins in Uruk. Now Assur is a militaristic empire, where the Enkidus have become morbid and cruel. The practices of the Bone Readers have been systematized into a cult known as the House of Bones, which conducts awful choral ceremonies atop its Ziggurat of Skulls. The Shars’ megalomania has grown with their power, and they delight in conquest and destruction. They believe the Awakening God is the embodiment of Assur itself, and has come back from the dead to lead them to victory over the entire world. In the end, even the gods may yield to their awful will."

My seventh mod, made in a motel room during January and February of 2025. It is a Late Age sequel to Ur and Uruk, something I strongly believe the game needs. It is a Death/Astral/Air/Earth nation with a focus on spellsinging Dirge communions and reliable Enkidu troops. It was relatively quick to make, and has a sibling nation, Nippur, that I plan to make at a later date when I am less sick of spriting Enkidus.
Mage paths are in the pinned discussion thread. If you happen to take Assur into a multiplayer game, please let me know! Any and all balance feedback is welcome.
Enjoy.
