Lowborn
Lowborn is a roleplay overhaul where power, recruitment, and titles must be earned, not given, rising from nothing through politics, contracts, and legitimacy while every decision shapes your place in Calradia
Lowborn is a roleplay-driven overhaul for Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord, designed for experienced players who already know the meta and want a slower, harsher, and more immersive rise to power.
After over 1500 hours in Bannerlord and 2000+ hours in Warband, one thing became clear: while Bannerlord excels in battles, it lost part of the personal and political immersion that made Warband memorable. Heroes feel less iconic, relationships feel shallow, and progression becomes mechanical once the optimal path is known.
Lowborn exists to challenge that mechanical playstyle.
You do not begin as a future lord — you begin as someone capable of leading, but without rights.

Lowborn reshapes progression around:
✔ Rights
✔ Legitimacy
✔ Social hierarchy
In this philosophy:
• Power is not granted automatically
• Recruitment is a privilege, not a default
• Titles matter — visually, mechanically, and narratively
• Relationships must be built before nobility, not after
The goal is to make every stage of the campaign distinct, memorable, and earned.
At the start, you are a lowborn:
• You cannot freely recruit volunteers
• Free men belong to a lord and a realm
To survive, you rely on:
• Purchased prisoners from the Ransom Broker
• Basic bandits pressed into service
• Small, fragile, and heterogeneous warbands
Your army looks unprofessional — because it is. This creates a visual and mechanical identity: a struggling leader gathering whoever will fight for coin.
Becoming a mercenary is not a soft version of vassalage. In Lowborn:
• A mercenary cannot recruit inside the kingdom they serve
• Reinforcements must come from foreign lands
• Recruitment requires negotiating contracts with foreign lords
To advance, you must:
🛡️ Build relationships across Calradia
💰 Pay for recruitment rights in foreign fiefs
⚖️ Respect war pressure, politics, and lord authority
Your army grows — but remains diverse, mixed, and mercenary.
Titles are the backbone of Lowborn. Heroes are no longer anonymous names on the map. They have cultural, visible, and meaningful titles, such as: Sir, Master, Praetor, Count, High Chieftain, Duke, Khan, Emperor
Titles:
✔ Represent real political power
✔ Grant concrete bonuses (party size, influence, renown)
✔ Can be lost if obligations are not upheld
✔ Are granted through councils or rulers, not automatically
More about titles: Titles in Lowborn [buymeacoffee.com]
Receiving a title is marked by formal letters, councils, and narrative events, making progression memorable.
As a true vassal:
• Recruitment inside your own fiefs is unrestricted
• Relations with notables are crucial
• Armies become homogeneous and professional
• Your warband reflects legitimacy, wealth, and authority, not desperation
✔ Prisoner Purchase — Buy weak prisoners to form your first warband
✔ Limited Volunteer Recruitment — Free men require noble rights or mercenary authorization
✔ Mercenary Recruitment Contracts — Negotiate paid recruitment rights with foreign lords
✔ Dynamic Pricing — Contract prices scale with fiefs, relations, charm, and trade skill
✔ Cultural Title System — Fully culture-aware noble titles with ranks and bonuses
✔ Narrative Letters & Dialogues — Descriptive, roleplay-focused messages for contracts and titles
🔹 Active Councils — Political assemblies deliberating on titles and policies
🔹 Legitimacy & Rebellions — Influence kingdom stability, rebellions, and realm foundation
🔹 Service as a Noble Soldier — Early alternative to prisoner recruitment, earning respect and equipment
🔹 Clothing & Appearance Influence — Equipment tier affects respect, negotiations, and dialogue outcomes
🔹 Grand Events — Great tournaments, high councils, and realm-wide gatherings
🔹 Imperial Rank & Calradian Unification — Unite Calradia under a new culture and imperial title

⚠️ This mod is not compatible with Total Conversion mods. Lowborn adds noble titles and mechanics that rely on the lore of Calradia, so they will not function properly in mods that overhaul the world or cultures.
Lowborn is designed for players who:
✔ Already know Bannerlord’s systems
✔ Enjoy roleplay and political progression
✔ Want a harder, slower, and more immersive campaign
✔ Miss the iconic heroes and personal politics of Warband
This is not a power-fantasy mod. It is a story of rising from nothing — and proving you deserve everything.
📌 Final Thoughts Lowborn — Power is not taken. It is granted.
