3D Flag Overhaul
Noticed how the flags in the vanilla game have weird grey patches and other visual glitches from a distance? Or wondered why some icons look surprisingly low quality? This mod is here to fix that, enhancing both the flags and icons for a cleaner, more polished look.
In the base game, 3D flags don’t display as intended. The edges are supposed to reflect ownership colors, but instead, they appear grey due to a rendering issue. Additionally, faction color masks and banner icons are so low-resolution that they produce ugly grey artifacts when viewed from a distance. Lastly, the new Aegean and Mesopotamian flags have broken trim masks, which leads to a solid black line going through them.
As shown in the Before & After comparison images in the gallery (view them in full screen to get a better idea on how obvious those issues used to be), this mod corrects all of these problems, making flags and icons appear smoother, more consistent, and more visually appealing. I’ve also slightly adjusted the saturation on some flags to improve visibility and clarity.
Yes! This mod is completely save-game compatible. It simply replaces several textures – including faction banner icons, flag textures, and unit type icons – with higher-quality versions. Since it only affects visuals, you can install or remove it at any time without any risk to your save files.
