Bribes – Money Talks

Pay to Pass

Unfortunately, Kenshi does not have a proper bribery and corruption mechanic. When you are transporting prohibited items and are suddenly searched, the game does not give you any chance, especially in Shek’s Kingdom or Holy Nation. This mod adds the ability to give a certain bribe at the gate (at the entrance to the city) to a guard so that he turns a blind eye to what you are carrying and lets you into the city. Yes, this mechanic sometimes works in United Cities, but it does not provide a clear scheme, does not allow you to choose the amount yourself, and depends on reputation, which is fundamentally illogical. The mod allows you to give specific amounts (1000, 2000, 5000, 10000, 20000, 25000 cats), which affects the chance of success. Each country covered here (Holy Nation, Shek’s Kingdom, United Cities) has its own chances of the bribe working, depending only on the lore of these countries. Below is a list of percentages for each of them, depending on the cats offered:

United Cities
1000 cats – 5%
2000 cats – 15%
5000 cats – 35%
10000 cats – 75%
20000 cats – 95%
25000 cats – 99%

Holy Nation
1000 cats – 1%
2000 cats – 5%
5000 cats – 15%
10000 cats – 35%
20000 cats – 55%
25000 cats – 75%

Shek’s Kingdom
1000 cats – 1%
2000 cats – 10%
5000 cats – 25%
10000 cats – 45%
20000 cats – 65%
25000 cats – 85%

Giving bribes is a crime. If you are caught giving bribes, you will go to prison and your reputation will suffer. However, even if you manage to give a bribe, rumors that you are corrupt will spread throughout the country, and sooner or later, that country will declare a hunt for you. For every unsuccessful/successful bribe, your reputation (i.e., your relationship with that country) will decline. For Holy Nation, it is -5, for Shek’s Kingdom, it is -4, and for United Cities, it is -2. This mechanic was created to prevent you from abusing bribes. It also simulates anti-corruption investigations and the fight against corruption. Accordingly, a theocratic centralized state will react to bribes faster than a bureaucratic one. Reputation will, of course, be restored by pacificators or good deeds for the country – this mechanic is still there, and what’s more, it will become even more necessary.

The prices may seem too high, but I transported hashish worth 200,000 cats in one trip to the Union Cities without mods – the economy in Kenshi is too broken, even if you are not involved in drug trafficking, but in something else, such as theft, resale, or profitable production. I recommend checking out my other mods, which work well together and can fix inconsistencies in this mod, for example: click

Is it compatible with other mods? Well, generally speaking, yes. The mod only changes three dialogue packs at the moment, which does not conflict with other mods.

I am always happy to receive your suggestions for improving this mod. Please write them here, directly on the mod page, so that I can easily read them and respond to you.
