More MiGs
This mod arose out of my personal desire to more accurately portray the compositions and actual capabilities of Warsaw Pact and aligned state airforces in scenarios taking place in the late 1960s and the 1970s.
Some initial tinkering turned into a "why don’t I just do as many variants as I can with the base-game assets?", and now here we are.
It always bothered me that the MiG-21s were all chucked into one variant with no representation of variants carrying different radars and munitions and that all the MiG-23 variants between the MiG-23MS and MiG-23MLD that other Warsaw Pact nations would operate were missing.
So with this mod you get all MiG-21 variants which can be represented with the MiG-21 model which is present in game (being one of a MiG-21bis) and all the intermediate MiG-23s with their appropiate loadouts (including some "new" missiles) and sensors.
The MiG-21 is split into:
– MiG-21PFM
– MiG-21SM
– MiG-21MF
– MiG-21bis
– MiG-21bis Lazur-M
– MiG-21bis Lazur-M (1982)
New MiG-23 variants:
– MiG-23M
– MiG-23MF
– MiG-23ML
– MiG-23MLA
Furthermore the MiG-23MS, MiG-23MLD and MiG-23A have received some adjustments in flight performance and equipment.
There are also some small bonus units:
– MiG-17AS
A ground attack variant of the MiG-17 with the ability to carry R-3S missiles
– Tu-22M2
Has received a SEAD loadout which includes the Kh-22P, an ARM variant of the Kh-22 anti-ship missile
– Lim-6bis
Has received a small overhaul of its name entries
Additionally there are three "new" missiles using in-game models in form of the R-23R and R-23T for earlier MiG-23 variants, the Kh-66 for the MiG-21PFM and several new radars.
– Squadrons for the MiG-17AS
– Different year variants of all aircraft with the appropiate munitions for the period
Currently everything in this mod is using base-game assets, there are no custom models and for now I am not planning to introduce any as my time is focused elsewhere.
The MiG-21PFM is a stretch in representation with the base-game model, only carrying "half" of the additional saddle tank IRL, but this appeared just about justifiable to me in order to have some more Fishbeds for Pact and aligned airforces.
Also note that the MiG-23MLD in this mod replaces the base game MiG-23MLD and removes the Jagdgeschwader 9 from its squadron list, as they never flew the type and this mod provides the actual variants for the squadron.
Depending on what scenarios you may be playing, and if the author utilized JG 9 MiG-23MLDs, this may lead to some errors.
