Description

Colonial World is an mod that radically transforms Europa Universalis IV’s colonial system. It extends colonial regions to the entire globe (Africa, Middle East, Asia, Siberia, Oceania) on top of the classic American regions. In total, 61 colonial regions are available, compared to only 13 in the base game.

⚠️ Important Information ⚠️

1. European nations only
Colonization is only possible when playing a nation whose capital is located in Europe. This is a restriction tied to the base game’s mechanics: only nations from the European continent/technology group can form Colonial Nations in colonial regions.

2. "Overseas" province restriction
Europa Universalis IV enforces a hardcoded restriction: it is impossible to colonize provinces that are not considered "overseas". A province is NOT overseas if it is directly connected to your capital by land.

This means certain nations will be affected:

  • Ottoman Empire Middle Eastern, Egyptian, North African and Caucasian regions will likely be connected by land to Istanbul, making them non-colonizable.
  • Spain / Portugal Morocco and parts of North Africa may be connected by land via Gibraltar, preventing colony formation.
  • Russia Siberia and Central Asia may be connected by land to Moscow, blocking colonization of these regions.
  • Any country with significant land expansion towards adjacent colonial regions will potentially be affected.

This behavior is unfortunately hardcoded by Paradox in the game engine and cannot be modified by a mod. Plan your conquests and expansion accordingly!

Planned Features
  • Colonial nations that can form unique countries when released (e.g. releasing Colonial Brazil creates an independent Brazilian nation)
  • Dynamic colony names based on the colonizing nation (French, English, Spanish, Portuguese, Dutch names, etc.)
  • Multi-language localization support
  • Colonial culture shifts depending on the colonizer (e.g. Afrikaans culture appearing in South Africa when colonized by the Dutch)

Compatibility
  • Supported version: v1.37.5.0
  • This mod modifies colonial region and trade company files, so it will be incompatible with other mods that modify these same files.
