Festival 1337 – Historical Balance & Multiplayer Overhaul
This mod represents the author’s comprehensive vision of how EU5 mechanics should function in competitive play and historical determinism.

The mod completely reworks the game’s balance, shifting the emphasis from simple accumulation of resources to strategic planning ahead. It combines the historical realism of the 14th-18th centuries with the need for balance between powers in multiplayer. Here, war is an expensive and dangerous undertaking, and the economy is a foundation that requires careful management.

I moved away from the ‘vanilla’ combat system, making each type of troop a more unique tool. A flanking system has been implemented, and new types of troops have been added, such as long-range troops in eras I and II.
- Troop differences: Different types of troops now have distinct specialisations in dealing damage to morale or durability.
- Economics of war: The cost of maintaining and hiring professional troops (especially cavalry) has been significantly increased, forcing players to rely more on militias and frontline units, and to conserve their elite units.
- Battle dynamics: Retreat and manoeuvring mechanics have been changed to increase the tactical weight of each battle.

The economy is based on the concept of ‘limited resources’ and historical productivity, underpinned by the principle of Malthusianism, which fits very well with the concept of the game.
- Food supply: Complete processing of RGO based on data from the 1300s. Food is now a critical resource that limits population and army growth. Countries capable of producing large amounts of food can now profit from selling it to their less fortunate neighbours.
- Agricultural revolution: Technological development now smoothly scales the agricultural boom and sponsors industrial/urban flourishing throughout all eras.
- Market logistics: Prices for strategic goods and their transportation costs have been revised to create a lively and more logical trading system, especially after edits.
