Saguaro
A saguaro is a cactus that can grow up to four meters tall… or at least that’s what he wants you to think.
Saguaro comes to Rivals of Aether! Saguaro is a rushdown character with powerful moves and a great stage presence!
Moveset
Neutral Special
Saguaro’s gun! Saguaro will fire once, with range great enough to cover the distance of most stages. If Saguaro runs out of ammo, he will be forced to reload instead of firing. Reloading cannot be cancelled, so it’s risky. This move has six different animations that will play depending on Saguaro’s position. Animations have different hitboxes respectively but all use the same frame data. Keep track of his ammo!
Side Special
Zip! Saguaro charges up and flings himself across the stage. This is a good method of escaping your opponent in order to reload, to catch up to your opponent while launching them at higher percent. If zip is used while moving, it will send Saguaro a bit further than his regular roll. However, if zip is used while standing completely still, Saguaro will cover much more distance. He can be hit at any time during this move, so spam isn’t recommended.
Up Special
Saguaro spins the chamber on his gun and misfires, launching him upwards and spiking anyone unfortunate enough to be under him to their demise. This move also has a brief hitbox above, protecting Saguaro as he recovers. It can be cancelled into for kills off the top.
Down Special
Prickly pear! Saguaro fires his gun into the ground to plant a bomb. The bomb remains inactive until launched out of the ground by pressing down special again while grounded or by zipping through it with side special! Both moves launch the bomb differently, with down special sending it straight up in a low arc, and side special sending it high up and in the direction of the zip, letting it bounce across the stage.
Quick Draw
Saguaro has a small window to cancel normal moves into specials. This doesn’t function like a regular cancel, as the window is active for several frames after the normal move, rather than during. Taking advantage of this window skips the starting frames of Nspecial, Fspecial, and Uspecial.

If you like this character, please give it a thumbs up! It’s my first ever mod for Rivals of Aether, so I know it’s not perfect, but I will continue to update it as time goes by. There are quite a lot of additional animations and minor changes I have in mind for it!
