After the pro-Axis Horthy regime collapsed in 1945, Hungary fell under Soviet influence. The USSR helped install a communist government led by Mátyás Rákosi, who built a harsh Stalinist party state, purging opponents and crushing political freedom. Many Hungarians soon felt that Soviet “liberation” had simply replaced one dictatorship with another.

After Stalin’s death in 1953, pressure for reform grew. Imre Nagy, a more moderate communist, briefly gained power and attempted to ease repression, but hardliners forced him out. By 1956, frustration with the regime boiled over as students and workers began organizing protests demanding democracy, the return of Nagy, and the withdrawal of Soviet troops.

When demonstrations erupted in Budapest, government forces opened fire on protesters, igniting a nationwide uprising. Nagy returned to power and announced sweeping reforms, even declaring Hungary’s withdrawal from the Warsaw Pact. The Soviet Union responded with a massive military intervention, crushing the revolution and installing János Kádár as leader. Nagy was later arrested and executed in 1958.

More historical context is in the modpack page.

Notes:

-If the modpack is to difficult, tweak the bot skill tweaker mod

-Yes, I uploaded another modpack recently. This modpack’s development just happened to be really quick, so see this as a 2-for-1 deal!

-The arsenal of the Hungarian revolutionaries is slightly fictionalized, because the revolution was so short that most weapons were ad hoc acquired, and no detailed records were kept. I have therefore made some rational guesses about the weapons they could have used, based on those of the Royal Hungarian Army and the Hungarian resistance during WWII.

-The maps are also slightly fictionalized, focusing on a scenario where the revolution might have lasted perhaps a month longer. Otherwise, the map rotation would have been very limited.

-"Why where you so long gone." Both my lack of interests in returning, something that happens when you have 100 of hours and a large amount of configs under your belt, but after a while I just wanted to return.

In the mean time I have played other games, done a lot of private stuff, and I’m even making my own game![misterkuul.itch.io] Currently not any historical title, just wait…

-If you have any suggestions for settings or mods I should use, just leave it in the comments.

Thanks for playing and reading :]
